Synopsis

In a dreamlike Afro-diasporic odyssey, landscapes and alleys meet at the crossroads of time. Solmatalua (which in Portuguese means both “sunforestmoon” as “sunkillmoon”), travels a dizzying itinerary through ancestral and contemporary territories, carrying out a mystical journey that rescue memories and search possible futures.

This film screens as part of the shorts program History Is Written at Night.

About the Director

Rodrigo Ribeiro-Andrade is an Afro-Brazilian artist who makes experimental documentaries, with a particular interest in the creative use of archival footage. His first film was the short A Morte Branca do Feiticeiro Negro (The White Death of the Black Wizard, THFF22), chosen as Best Short Film by the Brazilian Film Critics’ Association and mentioned worldwide on several lists of the best films of the year.
